Domenico del Mela

Domenico del Mela (Galliano 1683 ca-1755) was a priest and teacher, musical instrument maker and engineer. He was the first to succeed in creating the vertical piano to a design by Bartolomeo Cristofori, now housed in the Museum of Musical Instruments at the Accademia Gallery in Florence.

Giuliano Vangi

(Barberino di Mugello, 1931) Giuliano Vangi is today one of the greatest international contemporary artists. His works in Italy and abroad are countless: in the Vatican Museums, in Palazzo Madama in Rome, in the Cathedral of Padua, in the Cathedral of Pisa, in the Church of Padre Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo, in Korea, in Japan.

Quando Monte Morello mette il cappello, Mugellano prendi l'ombrello!

The literal translation is: "When Monte Morello wears his hat, Mugellano takes the umbrella!" This popular saying suggests that whenever Mount Morello is covered with clouds, we can be sure that the rain is coming to Barberino as well.

WHAT TO EAT

The bread beer of Mugello

The decrease in malt (minus 30% substituted with bread) makes it less bitter and therefore pleasing to those who do not like the typical note of hops. It has a slightly sour and fresh taste, so it is a light and delicate beer. It's excellent also for an aperitif or to accompany not too demanding dishes such as cheeses with compotes or desserts.

Nastrini

They are a type of pasta that in this area is often cooked with black truffle, typical of mugello.

Wild boar stew

The use of wild boar meat in the typical Tuscan cuisine, has its origins in very remote times. The wild boar meat is left to marinate many hours before being cooked, it is immersed in a container with wine, vinegar, juniper berries, cloves, peppercorns, garlic, onion, carrots and celery. After marinating, let it rest to make it lose excess fluid. Then it must be browned together with garlic, onion, carrots and celery over high heat for about 15 minutes. At this point you can lower the heat, and cook over moderate heat for two hours. You will need to add hot water (or broth) to keep the mixture fluid.

Bilancino Lake

Lake Bilancino contains 69 million cubic meters of water, has a maximum depth of 31 meters and a total area of 5 square kilometers. It was created to solve water supply problems in the Florentine area, but today it is also and above all a tourist resource. Here you can practice sport fishing, go canoeing or on a sailboat and, when the wind allows it, windsurf.

Palazzo Pretorio

The Palazzo Pretorio of Barberino di Mugello is located in Piazza Cavour and is a multipurpose space equipped to host exhibitions, weddings, conferences, courses and other events. The Palace has a facade full of coats of arms in stone and marble, enriched by a portal sixteenth and a window framed on shelves and is equipped with a modern tower with clock and bell.

Flaminia Militare

The consul Flaminio, in 187 B.C., after defeating the Ligurians settled on the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, had his legions build a road that connected Bologna to Arezzo. Over time this road had disappeared, remaining only where the millennial sedimentation had covered it. Following the intuition of two enthusiasts, Cesare Agostini and Franco Santi, in 1979 the first section of the track was found. Since then, various parts of the pavement have been unearthed, with a total length of 11 km.
