The owner Antonio invites you in with a greeting smile creating a welcoming environment giving it the sense of entering into someone’s home. Not only is it a gelato shop but a way to taste tradition.

The charming simplicity of the space allows for personal interaction with the staff and the owner, Antonio. His love for gelato is shared with each customer through the cozy atmosphere of his family-run shop. Each bite of gelato is so comforting, and just stepping into the shop brings a sense of warmth and relaxation. During my first week in Florence, my friends and I stumbled upon this charming little gelato spot while exploring the city, and we’ve been going back ever since. It’s become a place where we gather with friends, meet new people, and fully immerse ourselves in the rich local culture. This hidden gem is the perfect treat during or after a day walking around and enjoying the history of the city. Great food doesn’t need to be complicated, it just needs to be made with passion, which is one of the many reasons I keep going back.

Carabe has been in Florence for over twenty years and in 1989 the owner Antonio Lisciandro opened the shop in via Ricasoli. “For Antonio, ice cream is not just a product, but a cultural asset to be cared for through careful artisanal processing.” They make their ice cream fresh every morning using traditional recipes. When tasting gelato for the first time or even the tenth time it still transports you back into your childhood, giving adults the smile of children. The care and tradition behind each batch of gelato mirror the personal warmth I found at Carabe, a place where I explored, connected with friends, and embraced the local culture. In many ways, Carabe became not just a gelato shop, but a cherished part of my Florence experience and the memories I created there.
