Established on February 1, 1888, during the Austro-Hungarian occupation, the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the oldest museum in the country. Located in Sarajevo, this magnificent structure was designed by architect Karlo Paržik.
The museum comprises four distinct pavilions connected by terraces, encompassing an inner atrium that houses a botanical garden. This neo-Renaissance masterpiece is unique in Southeast Europe, specifically built to serve as a museum.
The museum’s most prized possession is the renowned Sarajevo Haggadah, a historic Jewish text brought to Sarajevo by Sephardic Jews following their expulsion from Spain.
