HISTORICAL NOTES

Mina

Historically nicknamed La tigre di Cremona, she is considered one of the best singers of all time. She is known for the qualities of her voice and for starring in numerous television programs broadcast by RAI since the 1960s. Her instrument, with its warm and highly personal timbre, immediately recognizable, is endowed with great amplitude, extension, and agility, capable of combining vocal power and ductility, and is supported by a very firm technique; Mina is also distinguished by her interpretive skills and eclecticism, which have led her to successfully tackle musical genres that are often distant from each other.

Ugo Tognazzi

Ugo Tognazzi was one of the protagonists of the Italian film scene, counted among the "masters" of Italian-style comedy. Ugo Tognazzi is a multifaceted figure, not only an actor but also a director, theater scriptwriter, cinematographer and Italian television personality. In addition to his brilliant artistic abilities, he is often the center of attention, to the delight of tabloid newspapers, for his eventful private life.

WHAT TO EAT

Turunina Cake

In the late 1990s, this cake was created to pay homage to nougat. Turunina cake is made up of butter, powdered sugar, whole eggs, wheat and corn flour, yeast, honey and nougat grains.

Mustard

Cremona mustard has its origins as far back as the 17th century. It is made from whole fruits and mustard oil. Its flavor is therefore a mix of sweet and spicy. It is used mainly in combination with boiled meats, but also with cheeses.

Marubini

Cremona's signature first course is marubini. Marubini are pasta stuffed with beef, salamella or fresh garlic salami, Grana Padano cheese, and nutmeg. Marubini are cooked and served in a broth made with three different types of meat.

MUST-SEE

Lute Manufacturing school

Very famous for being the school of excellence in the field of traditional Cremonese violin making and is part of the "Antonio Stradivari" Institute based at the same address. The school is open to all future violin makers, so not only to pupils who have finished middle school but also to people of any age.

Monastero di San Giuseppe in San Sigismondo

Located in Largo Bianca Maria Visconti, near the Ospedale Maggiore. The church, with a single nave and side chapels, was frescoed beginning in 1535 and represents one of the most significant decorative complexes of 16th-century Mannerism in northern Italy, stylistically harmonious and unified despite the intervention of several painters (Camillo Boccaccino, Giulio Campi, Bernardino Campi, Bernardino Gatti, Antonio Campi and others).

Soncino

Thanks to the volunteers of the Castrum Soncini Urban Speleology Association, numerous underground structures in Soncino could be discovered and recovered. Below ground level, in fact, extend the ancient water-sewer system, the defensive tunnels of the city walls and the cellars of the oldest Soncino buildings.
