Bedřich Smetana
Originally from Litomyšl, described as the founder of Czech national music. Among his most famous works are "The Bartered Bride" and "The Devil's Wall". Bedřich Smetana's birth house is located on the ground floor of the Litomyšl Castle Brewery. The International Opera Festival entitled "Smetana Litomyšl" is held annually in Litomyšl.

He was born in Polička, where today tourists can visit his birthplace. He is one of the most important classical music composers. His most important compositions are the "First Symphony" and the "Second Symphony".

To what extent is gingerbread in Pardubice
The meaning of the saying 'To what extent is gingerbread in Pardubice', which dates back to the beginning of the 19th century, is still an unsolved mystery for historians. Whether the saying indicates quality or, on the contrary, poor-tasting products, the Pardubice gingerbread producers at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries began to use it as an advertising slogan. It was during this period that the history of Pardubice gingerbread began to be written.

Gingerbread from Pardubice
Gingerbread is a dark brown paste whose original recipe consisted of of honey, flour and pepper. It was pepper that gave rise to the word perník, originally peprník. The best known in the Czech Republic is Pardubice gingerbread. The recipe originally came from Hradec Králové, but the then owner of the Pardubice estate, William of Pernštejn, bought it. In Pardubice, he deals with production of high quality gingerbread, soft and tasty, decorated by hand, for example the firm Pavel Janoš according to the family recipe. The historical roots of the JANOŠ confectionery company run deep at the beginning of the last century, when Mrs. Marie Janošová, a cook by training, produced sweets products. In 1991, Pavel Janoš decided to continue the tradition and built with his parents confectionery production. In 1998 he was awarded the title of Pastry Chef of the Year.

Jabkance
The main ingredient of this regional specialty is not apples, but potatoes. The potatoes are made into a pancake that can be filled with anything. Here it is traditionally filled with ricotta.
The potatoes are boiled in their skins, peeled while still hot, salted and crushed with a wooden hammer. On a lightly floured rolling pin, form small balls with the dough and cut out with a glass or cup, spread the ricotta filling, fold and combine. Cook on a fat-free pan.
Put the finished apple pies in a bowl, brush with butter and sprinkle with sugar.
Hřebečská medovina
Hřebečská mead is a natural handcrafted mead. It is fermented with home-grown honey from the forests of the Hřebečský ridge, around Moravská Třebová and Třebařov. Mead is flavored with herbs and spices and therefore differs significantly from other mead. In the Bylinna bitter, herbs are used that give this mead its characteristic flavor and aroma, which, together with the sweetness of honey form a delicious drink. This mead is aged in oak barrels.

Litomyšl State Castle (UNESCO)
Due to its uniqueness, the castle and its park were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. The Renaissance castle from the 16th century is famous for its unique sgraffito decoration of the facade, made mainly by Italian masters. It is decorated with more than 8,000 sgraffiti, each of which is completely different from the others. Art lovers can admire Olbram Zoubek's sculpture collection in the castle cellar.

Muzeum v přírodě Veselý Kopec
The open-air museum Veselý Kopec is one of the places in the eastern region of Bohemia where carnival rides with traditional masks take place. The exhibition in Veselý Kopec consists of buildings of small farmers. The open-air museum currently consists of three dozen buildings. The legend of the mythical knight Toulovec gave its name to this nature reserve, near the town of Proseč, famous for the production of pipes. The local sandstone rock formations, the so-called "Toulouse rocks", form a system of rocky valleys, sometimes cut up to 60 meters high. The sandstone rocks are hidden in deep forests.
