PERSONAGES
Ema Destinnová
(1878-1930) An opera singer, a world-famous soprano who also performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Ema Destinnová owned a chateau in Stráž nad Nežárkou in South Bohemia where she lived from 1918 until her death and loved the surrounding nature. Today, the chateau is open to the public and houses an exhibition dedicated to the life and work of the soprano, and hosts various music festivals and concerts.
Jaroslav Hašek
(1883-1923) Writer and journalist, as well as the author of the novel 'The Vicissitudes of the Good Soldier Švejk'. The writer's family had roots in the region and he himself began his military career in České Budějovice. In South Bohemia, we can follow the traces of soldier Švejk's ascent from Tábor to České Budějovice.

It is a legendary line from the play by the fictional Czech genius Jára Cimrman, which is known and used in an ironic sense by almost all Czechs.

Kratochvíle Castle
A Renaissance jewel nestled among ponds near the town of Netolice. This picturesque castle surrounded by a moat and a Renaissance garden was built at the end of the 16th century by the important South Bohemian nobleman William of Rožmberk. During a tour of the castle, you can admire the original Renaissance interiors with rich decoration. Between the 16th and 17th centuries, it was the favorite residence of the late Rožmberk family and their guests.
Zvíkov Castle
The king of Czech castles. It stands on a promontory above the confluence of the important Czech rivers Vltava and Otava and for centuries was a symbol of the wooded, riverine region, an important point between the southern town of Písek and the distant city of Prague. The majestic castle, whose history dates back to the 13th century, is one of the main buildings of Czech medieval architecture.
