THE Farm

Ilzenbergas Manor - a Sustainable Travel Destination in Lithuania

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

The Farm

Ilzenbergas is a testament to the local way of life and a hub of cultural heritage.

Here, the fruits of the land and the care of animals yield more than organic products – they represent tradition, valued for their authentic quality and taste.
Like many other manor estates, Ilzenbergas Manor had two flour mills, a dairy, a smokehouse, a barn, an icehouse, a creamery, where butter and cheese were made.

The main products made in the manor included grain, meat, dairy products, eggs, fruit, and vegetables. Most of the products were consumed by the residents of the manor. Only very small amounts of produce were sold. Cows, oxen, pigs, sheep, and goats were kept at the animal farm. Additionally, a variety of birds including hens, ducks, turkeys, and geese were raised. During the 16th to 19th centuries, beef was highly prized and the meat was salted and smoked.
