BIOGRAPHY
MOUNT LABBRO
The Mount Labbro area, besides being in the heart of two protected areas of high natural and scenic interest, is known for the presence on its summit of the Giurisdavidica Tower, built and linked to the figure of Davide Lazzaretti.
LAZZARETTI'S EXPERIENCE
Amiata prophet David Lazzaretti was born in Arcidosso on November 06, 1834, and died there, murdered, on August 18, 1878. On the mountain in addition to the tower, the ruins of other Jurisdavidic sacred buildings are visible: the small church, consecrated in 1872 - with first mass celebrated on September 29, 1875 - and the hermitage, completed in 1875. Balducci looked to Lazzaretti as an example, as he believed that one had to rethink the liturgy as a true expression of community, something the prophet of the Amiata was able to do in a very concrete, if unconventional, way. And it is precisely among these mountains that Lazzaretti's revolutionary dream was born and died.
SANTA FIORA (GR)
Santa Fiora, the small town of miners on Mount Amiata, where Balducci was born on August 6, 1922, the eldest of four children (Agnese, Maria and Beppina), has always been, evoked by him as a fundamental place in his human and religious formation. The small town, Balducci's birthplace, is located only a few kilometers from Mount Labbro.
QUOTE
E. Balducci, “It was a revolution without the revolution”
"If you think, here it is, that on Sundays when there was mass on Mount Labbro all the churches in the area were deserted and the poor priests had no one left in the church you understand many things. Between a dead, latin, boring liturgy with no resonance in popular consciousness and this phantasmagorical, open-air liturgy, there was evidently an infinite difference. When today we wish for a liturgy that is truly an expression of the community I think Lazzaretti's case is emblematic." [L'Unità, 02/24/78]
