MUST-SEE

Odessa Montmartre

In search of original souvenirs, many guests of the city go to the so-called Odessa Montmartre. This area is a favorite place of creativity among Odessa artists where they present their best works and offer passers-by to paint their portraits. Besides art workshops, the area accommodates interesting antique shops where you can buy many amazing old things. They sell old vinyl records, jewelry in the style of past years, ancient works of art, and even antique furniture.

Arcadia

Arcadia is a historical part of Odessa, which is known as a famous sea resort. The founders of the city chose the beach of Arcadia to host the resort, since it was difficult to get to other beaches of Odessa because of steep cliffs and descents. At the same time, a natural gentle descent leads to the Arcadia region, which in its origin is a ravine. That's why the place was named after a mountainous district in Greece, which was known as the idilic home of pastoral villagers. Nowadays, Arcadia never sleeps - in the day the sand and stone beaches as well as numerous restaurants and artesian shop are available for tourists and Odessa people. In the night it is the heart of the city's night life and entertainment.

Potemkin Stairs

Potemkin Stairs or Potemkin Steps are a giant stairway in Odessa. They are considered a formal entrance into the city from the direction of the sea and are the best known symbol of Odessa. The original 200 stairs were commissioned by the regional governor-general Vorontsov, as both a gift to his wife Elisabeth and to gain support from the local elites, many of whom lived at the top of the future staircase along Primorsky Boulevard. The steps were made famous in Sergei Eisenstein's 1925 silent film Battleship Potemkin.
