PERSONAGES
Maghinardo Pagani
Maghinardo Pagani (1243 ca. -1302) was the absolute Lord of these lands and powerful military and political leader. Maghinardo personally knew Dante and in the Commedia has a place in Hell and a mention in Purgatory, as recalled by a plaque placed on the fourteenth-century Palazzo dei Capitani in the center of the town. He was buried in 1302 in the Vallombrusan Abbey of Susinana, which today is a villa-farm and accommodation facility.
Marzia Ubaldini in Ordelaffi
It is said that the woman between the two towers, emblem of the town, is Marzia Ubaldini, known as Cia (1317-1381), one of the most famous warrior women of the Middle Ages, who had inherited her proud and warlike character from her grandfather Maghinardo Pagani.

WHAT TO EAT
Migliaccio
When misery was the daily bread, waste was avoided in every way. For this reason, when the pig was killed the motto was "not a part of the pig will be thrown away" because every part of it was used for food making.
The migliaccio is one of these recipes, which allowed the use of blood, one of the animal’s most perishable materials. The blood was added a tablespoon of salt to prevent coagulation.
This cake has a base made of water and flour, joined to create a dough that was then rolled out with a rolling pin. For the filling we use seasonal fruit, so apples, oranges and lemons, milk, cocoa, sugar, a little stale bread to give consistency and, of course, blood.
Raviggiolo
It is a characteristic soft white cheese made with cow’s milk. Raviggiolo has a sweet and delicate taste and a creamy consistency. Excellent fresh or to be used as a filling.
Tortelli di marroni
Tortelli with chestnuts are a seasonal variant of potato tortelli. They are prepared in autumn and in this case the filling is composed of chestnuts flavored with rum.
MUST-SEE
Palazzo dei Capitani
The name is due to the fact that it was the seat of the Captains of the People, who once administered the valley. For this reason many of their coats of arms are walled on the facade. The palace was built at the end of 1300. It is characterized by a corner porch and a raised entrance and is dominated by the Clock Tower.
On October 10, 1506, Pope Julius II stopped there accompanied by Niccolò Machiavelli: an event commemorated by a plaque on the facade of the building. Inside the Palace there are: the Museum of the Mountain People and the Archaeological Museum of the Upper Mugello.
Prati Piani
In the locality of Prati Piani you can admire the fields and the surrounding mountains from a panoramic position and the secular Castagnone (chestnut tree) next to the fields.
Lozzole
The uninhabited village of Lozzole, framed by the rugged beauty of the surrounding mountains, is a must for hikers.
