Overview of Khinalig
Khinalig, perched at 2,350 meters (7,710 ft) in the Greater Caucasus Mountains of Azerbaijan, is one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited villages, with a history spanning over 5,000 years. Located in the Quba District, about 220 km northwest of Baku, it offers a glimpse into a way of life shaped by time and nature. The villagers speak a unique, endangered language found nowhere else and live in stone homes arranged on terraced hills, where the rooftop of one house serves as the courtyard for the one above. The scenic landscapes, crystal-clear night skies, and the warm hospitality of the locals make Khinalig an unforgettable experience. It’s not just a destination; it’s a journey into history, tradition, and simplicity.
