The land of Pilsner beer and the sound of bagpipes

PERSONAGES

Jan Sladký Kozina

(1652 - 1695) He led the revolt of the Chod people at the end of the 600, when their rights and privileges were trampled by the lords of Albernreuth. Upon his death Kozina would challenge his opponent to divine judgment, and indeed just as he had predicted, his opponent - Lomikar, died within a year.

Jindřich Šimon Baar

(1869 - 1925) He was a Czech Catholic priest, poet and writer, collector of short stories from his homeland - Chodsko, with a deep knowledge of his native region, language and customs of his people. He created a precious ethnographic picture of this area in his prose.

Lomikare, Lomikare do roka a do dne zvu tě Lomikare na Boží súd.

"Lomikar, Lomikar within a year and a day I invite you to the judgment of God."
The proverb comes from Chodsko and would have been pronounced by Jan Sladký Kozina before his execution towards his opponent Lomikar who died within a year and a day. Today it is used to say that within a year and a day something happens, something will happen in this period of time.

Plzeňské pivo

Pilsner beer, a beer born in the city of Plzeň. It differs from other lagers for the marked role of hops, in particular for the use of the renowned Žatec hops (West Bohemia). The Měšťanský Pivovar brewery (Municipal Brewery) recruited the Bavarian brewer Josef Groll, who, using the new techniques and the newly available light malts, created the first batch of modern Pilsener in 1842. The combination of light color, particularly water Plzeň sweet, renowned Žatec hops and Bavarian lager style, produced a golden beer that became very popular and soon spread around the world.
